A great big – I’vebeentoYarndaleandamstillsquealinginternally – howdy-doo to you guys!
Just in case there are any who have no idea what I’m talking about, stop reading this minute and Google it, book your tickets for next year, and get a tattoo as a reminder!
For people who knit, crochet, sew, needle felt and/or just LOVE yarn and fabrics in general, Yarndale is the event of the year. And since I’ve been crocheting for over a year now, I knew I absolutely had to go. Just FYI, it was better than I could ever have imagined.
I feel as though I have to give a little bit of love to Skipton, North Yorkshire too. It was the most picturesque little town; canals with colourful boats (one of which is owned by a lady who dyes her own yarn – I KNOW!), little tea shops around the market place, it was just gorgeous.

So we waited for the legendary Yarndale bus which was a red double decker bus, strewn with crocheted bunting and a crocheted mandala in each window and we were off!
What struck me first was how you could definitely tell the people who were going to Yarndale from those who weren’t. People with their own crocheted or knitted bags for their Yarndale hauls, crocheted or knitted jumpers. Basically, they all appreciate and celebrate the beauty of yarn.
The sheer amount of yarn stalls was mesmerising, and the crocheted decorations, well, see for yourself.
Among many others, some of my personal favourites were the Toft stall, mainly because they had a crocheted display of some of their adorable poochy patterns, as well as some sea creatures too.
Since coming back from Yarndale I’ve actually mustered up the courage to use my Truly Hooked sock yarn in the shade Fight Like a Girl and crochet myself some beautiful socks. I met the lovely lady who owns Truly Hooked and seeing her in all her crocheted glory just decided it for me so we’ll see how that goes! The colour I’m using seems to be out of stock but you can still get plenty of beautiful hand-dyed yarns in her shop here.

I really loved the community projects that were organised in preparation for Yarndale. The crocheted butterflies sent in from towns, villages and cities across the globe were, as you can see, an absolute delight for the eyes!
Church members also chose to commemorate the centenary of the First World War ending with their own very wolly version of the porcelain poppies. Children and adults alike submitted their poppies to be displayed in this beautiful waterfall, and we were so lucky to see it at Yarndale!
There were handmade socks for those in desperate need of them and overall, it just warmed me to see all of the comradery and spirit shared between crafters.

The Attic 24 stand was gorgeous! Having all of their beautiful blankets on display definitely swayed me. I actually ended up going home with the Coast colourway (pictured) and my cousin went home with the Moorlands colourway so they were our treats. And I’m purposely not starting it until I’ve finished my orders or I’ll never finish them. Also pictured is the Cupcake colourway, follow the links to get yours!
Well, I could literally go on all week about the amazing things we saw at Yarndale, and just how utterly brilliant it was and will continue to be as an event. It’s safe to say we will DEFINITELY be going again next year.
Here is a little rogue’s gallery of honourable mentions because, as I said, I’d be going on FOREVER! Enjoy!
Spincity’s tutorial-giver and saleswoman of the year Naddie B made our day, seriously! Check her out here. And Woolcouture‘s cuddly and just gorgeous crocheted animals were so, so difficult to part with!
